Alternate the holiday
Some families alternate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day by year. This reduces same-day movement but requires both homes to plan around the rotation.
Split the day
A split day can work when homes are close and children can handle the transition. It is usually harder when travel is involved.
Use winter break blocks
For distance or travel, splitting the broader school break can be calmer than splitting the holiday itself.
